Okay, truth be told this post was a little delayed. But better late than never because even though I wish I had A LOT more time to explore, Bar Harbor, ME was a pretty sweet place to visit. We visited Maine a few weeks ago and stayed in Belfast in the cutest Airbnb you can check out my day in the life while we visited Belfast here.
So we were about an hour out and got to spend part of our day there. So to be honest this was a pretty express trip but stil SO worth it and I seriously need to go back.
For anyone who isn’t familiar with Bar Harbor, it’s seriously one of those super picturesque New England places. It’s located on Mount Desert Island, it’s on the water, there are a ton of unique little stores, tons of places to eat, gorgeous (I mean seriously gorgeous) mansions and architecture. It’s also right by Acadia National Park which unfortunately we weren’t able to see BUT if you’re in the area you should totally check it out.
Downtown has so many shops and unique places to window shop (or you know full on shop). Obviously I had to make my first stop at a bookstore so we stopped into Sherman’s. This place was founded in the late 1800s, was pretty big, and had tons of stationery, souvenirs, and of course books.
We also stopped in Into The Woods to admire the woodworking and craftsmanship. It’s 3 stories and there are so many different things. We stopped in a few other stores, teashops, and souvenir shops.
Like I mentioned earlier Bar Harbor has really awesome houses and architecture and even though there were a few museums I wanted to visit that we couldn’t because of Covid (another reason we need to go back) we got to catch a bit of the Museum in the Streets – which is pretty Covid safe. So if you’re into history (like me), like free stuff or like looking at different houses, for sure a really fun thing to do.
We ended the night at the Side Street Cafe I got The Emmy which was a Mediterranean style pita sandwich and Andy got a Northern Cuban Sandwich and defiantly an awesome place to eat with tons of other options that looked really good too.
Anyways that pretty much concludes our super short express trip. So if you’re passing through or short on time and want to pop in and visit definitely check these places out.
